Results!

A big thank you to all of my donors for helping me raise $2,281.50 for the Center for Pregnancy! A huge thank you to my biggest donors Matt and Angie Butcher!

If you follow me on twitter (@jjellis), you know snippets of the story. It was a windy but otherwise perfect day for playing 8.5 hours of golf! We started right about 8am, and the only considerable break I took was at 12:45 to grab a few sandwiches for lunch. That's right, I grabbed them and headed out the door, snacking as I played. At the point that I stopped for lunch, I had 94 holes completed.

As the afternoon progressed, I really didn't think that I would be able to break the record because my pace started to slow (and the Aleve started to wear off). But continuing to jog from shot to shot helped keep the pace up, and having a corner of the golf course to myself also helped.

By far the scariest moment of the day happened at about hole #180, when my scorecard blew out of the cart! I jumped out of the moving golf cart and sprinted across the fairway to catch it 20 yards before it went into a lake. Only I would play that many holes and then find a way to lose a scorecard or jump into a lake to retrieve it.

Nearing the end of the day, I was tired. My back seized up on hole #20, I ripped open a blister on my hand at hole #140, and did I mention I was tired? So as I completed hole #185, another golfer met me as I was headed to the clubhouse. Has told me that he too had played 185 holes, and that I should go play one more to prevent a tie. So I played one more hole, but then realizing I had to drive back to the clubhouse anyway, I played two more holes (2 balls each) on my way in to finish at 190 holes of golf.

In the end, a very worthy cause was served. Through the efforts of my donors and those supporting the other golfers, the Center for Pregnancy can continue providing essential services to new families through necessary daily items like diapers and clothing, but also through counseling, support groups, and education. I can't wait until next year, and I hope you will join me in praying throughout the year for the Center's staff and volunteers, but more so for the families that are touched through this ministry.

May the Lord bless you for your cheerful generosity!!
